"Jesus is a really good guy," said Hiro, a college student (background, right). Today, Hiro interpreted my sermon. Though a bit edgy at the outset, Hiro did so well. He jabbed me a bit for steering away from the manuscript at times, but his natural ability provided more than enough coverage. For two weeks, we spent many hours together, answering his many questions about Jesus and practicing our translations. At one point, after discussing various passages describing Jesus' compassion to those whose voices were silenced or marginalized, Hiro had a 'really good' thing to say about Jesus. I nodded in full agreement.
