::: following our language teacher's advice, after class we checked out the kobe int'l community center (k.i.c.c.), a well-resourced place where foreigners (guy-ko-ku-jins) can get free weekly two-hr sessions with a japanese conversation partner...the slots book up pretty fast, so we're looking forward to starting this next month...

...with another staff member perched over his shoulder, the friendly volunteer receptionist asked to inspect our visas...claire showed hers to them...both of them took one look, moved in closer, muttered the words "religious activities" in virtual unison, and simultaneously looked at claire as if they had just seen a ghost :::
