ministry pulse
::: here's a quick ministry pulse for the month of june-july...we'd like to focus on the following four aspects...
hospitality
our church continues to be an open and hospitable place to worship God and welcome visitors...i sense that all of us are growing in christian hospitality...visitors infuse a sense of freshness...they also provide our church members with a platform to ask questions, gain interest in others and pray for their salvation...we have had visitors nearly every week...as a result, our church leaders have decided that we have outgrown our current meeting place....starting last week, we began meeting in a bigger space (in the same community center).
worship: freedom and form
we are regularly encouraged by the faith and perseverance of the church planting team...this month a church member and i kicked off an afternoon praise and worship service designed for more responsive, free-flowing worship...our desire is to see our community worship strike a better balance between freedom and form...all in all, our church agreed that this new service is a good way for us to grow as a worshiping community.
outreach
this aspect continues to keep us active....a recent summer bbq party drew 17 people, including two families, including our next door neighbors....as a welcomed indication, we heard that our neighbor's youngest daughter really wanted to attend the bbq...she insisted that her parents and her schoolfriend join her!...we've talked with this family about starting english classes with this daughter and her friend....
speaking of english ministry, it continues to proceed in full swing...my classes at the local ymca have their ups and downs, but bottom line, God gives me lots of love for these students and interest in their well-being and salvation...claire continues with two adult and one high school english classes....opportunities in the english ministry have galvanized our church members, and, in particular, claire's relationship with yoko, our designated chaplain.
relationships
relationship-building has been steady and satisfying source of joy this month...in addition to spending time with a family visiting kobe from southern california, we continue to spend time with church members...we also spend equal if not more time with non-christian neighbors and new friends...through these relationships, God is teaching us to listen to others and show the love of Christ in tangible ways...he is also teaching us to groan for their salvation and their hurting hearts
