::: among close japanese friends, the disclosure of too much sappy information -- such as how much you love your spouse -- usually provokes a polite phrase uttered after a meal in someone's home: go chi so sama deshita (i have received/eaten well)...said in the aforementioned context, however, go chi so is a dry wise-crack that makes a cheddar-sharp point: we've all had enough for your sappiness...
...at the risk of evoking a go chi so rise out of many of our readers, i am posting a birthday song that i wrote for claire six years ago...as in years past, i sang this song to claire when the clock struck 12.00 on june 22...

...having said that, i am absolutely unashamed to say that i am my wife's biggest fan and an unabashed proponent of all things sappy (okay, not all things, but most)...so i post this song in a spirit of christian encouragement for all of you who feel this way about anyone dear in your life who is celebrating (or has celebrated) a birthday...
