small world

::: so glad that claire's good friend from college, jennifer, along with her husband and six-month old son, caden, are in town for one month...

...that they are staying in a neighboring town (just two subway stops from us) still astonishes us...such a small world!...being so close made it so easy for jennifer and caden to join us for sunday worship, meet our church family, celebrate a couple of birthdays and catch up on life at our place...

...what more can i say about the creativity of our church members?...they continue to amaze in small yet special ways...to celebrate claire's and another person's birthdays, mikiko made this decorative rice dish...awesome job, mikiko!!!...

...art meets appetite...how do the faces compare?

...it was funny to see our church members portion out the food...the emphasis on aesthetics was apparent...they were so careful not to ruffle the hair, trying so hard to keep everything intact during the transfer from bowl to small plate...maybe he was joking, but minoru turned the face over to avoid eye contact...an amusing insight into japanese civility...

...at any rate, for you curious creatures, i'll close with the food behind the features:

  • face (ham)
  • hair (soba noodles)
  • eyes & nose (seaweed)
  • lips (crabmeat)
