::: imagine doing a BBQ in a sauna...and being thankful for it!
...i'm exaggerating (slightly), but that's how it felt today during our summer BBQ party...stifling humidity and all, we had been anticipating a typhoon from okinawa to sweep into town this weekend...so just having a rain-free outreach was a huge answer to our prayers...other answers to prayer: spending good time with a couple of japanese families...
...while grilling shitake mushrooms and eggplant, i looked around...being part of the event team often makes you more obsessed with details and less observant of people, doesn't it?...but, in this prayerful pause, God gave me much joy to see people talking to each other, eating grilled wieners and squid and yakisoba (fried noodles), smiling, laughing, lingering together quietly for the next cool breeze...

...our japanese friends, so hospitable and gracious, inspire us to be better followers of christ...
...a good reminder from today's sauna:
ministry is not a sum of events...
rather, it is an effort to share humanity
in the spirit of jesus

Hey guys. It looks like you had a great time. Yummy food. Of course, I can't see the "sauna" effect in the pictures! ha ha ha. don't worry, i take your word for it.
