...taking everyone's finished bowl, one by one mikiko was using tissue paper to meticulously wipe away the remaining tan streaks of curry...another member dispensed individual sheets to mikiko...
..."you don't know?" replied yoko, another church member...
..."um," pretending like i temporarily misplaced the apparently obvious truth, "um...(pause)..."
..."every japanese elementary student learns to do this," replied yoko as mikiko continued..."before washing, we must take out the curry color from the bowls or else the curry goes into the water and it takes too much power to change the water from brown to clear...that's too much energy for japan"...
...waiting for more, but getting none...
..."oh, i get it," i replied, confused at first, but soon realizing that as a nation with millions of daily curry consumers, this makes a whole lot of sense...
..."in japan, we are ecology friendly," said yoko, punctuating her conclusion with a confident smile...
...at that moment, i grasped my bowl, quickly pretending to lick it like a thirsty dog...
..."this way," i said, looking at mikiko, "you do not need to waste tissue"....
..."sugoi! (awesome)," said mikiko and yoko, bursting in laughter, "you too are ecology friendly!...you are japanese!"...

hahaha...that's crazy that they wipe away the curry!! once again...japanese people are pretty amazing! hehehe...
TOO FUNNY! Hilarious! Must be so fascinating to learn the ways of a different culture... I'm just trying to catch up on learning the Korean culture... :)
