effort

::: "they are so nice, aren't they?" said claire...

"in japanese what do you call them?" she said, moving toward and pointing to the bright yellow bursts of nature that lean on a white fence separating our garden from our neighbor's...

"himawari desu (they are sunflowers)," replied mr. miyamoto, looking away from the plant he was watering...

"arigatou gozaimasu (thank you)," said claire with a slight bow...

...the next morning i noticed this sign on the white fence...

...our neighbor's effort -- timid yet thoughtful, guarded yet generous -- reminds us of the warm embrace we've experienced from all of our immediate neighbors...while we explore deeper connections, God continues to put our neighbors on our hearts and in our prayers...
