Copper Village

.
.
We took a mini-vacation with our Asian Access Kansai area family to Fukiya Village in Okayama prefecture which was a few hours drive into the country.

As you can see there wasn't much around except a lot of God's beautiful creation.

Here's the house we rented (on the left). It was very spacious, something like 7 rooms, mini-swimming pool bath, open common area and pretty spacious cooking where we got to do all our own cooking. There wasn't any grocery stores close-by so we had to bring in all our food with us. There weren't any TVs, internet etc., so we entertained ourselves - mostly the kids entertained us.

Here's the main street and only street of the village. Long, long ago, the village subsisted on the copper mines that were abundant in that area. Most of the homes and store roofs are copper lined. In some of the souvenir shops in the town they had different coppery things even copper died fabrics and clothing - so many different things you can do with copper!

Here's the village's only school.

Next to the school was a big dirt area where we flew some kites and played kick ball.

On our way home we stopped by the local copper mine which has been turned into a museum of sorts. While it was fun for us to be down in these mines for less than an hour, it was hard to imagine people spending most of their lives down in these caves never seeing the sunshine.

We had a wonderful time enjoying God's creation and enjoying time with one another - thanks A2 Kansai family!
