sugar

::: sugar...and lots of it...
.
...today's fourth installment of claire to asobo ("fun with claire") -- our church's monthly neighborhood outreach -- featured gospel storytime, songs, santa, and sugar -- in the form of gingerbread houses...
.
...6 families (10 children) -- all of whom live within a five minute walk from us -- attended despite heavy winds and rain...
.
...
.
...for a variety of reasons, preparing for this event was taxing, both on us and our ministry team...claire and i made 10 gingerbread houses into the wee hours...

.
...the morning of, the list of details was growing not shrinking...but our children's ministry team was running on all cylinders...one thing we're realizing: the level of our attention to detail is not nearly as high as our japanese partners...a few times we got the sense that we were stretching our team's patience...and vice versa...i had to say sorry a couple of times...both a source of learning and frustration, this difference in detail management helps us communicate better and minister together with our church...
.
...
.
...seeing the smile on the kids' faces melted away our fatigue and made all the efforts seem worthwhile...
.
...
.
...
.
...
.
...yoko did a great job as santa...the kids loved her...
.
...
.
...
.
...tired but thankful for our gifted and diligent children's ministry team (left to right: kotomi, mikiko, claire and yoko)...

Chung, I am SO amazed that you and Bobby made all those houses! They're beautiful. Last year, I made g-houses and it was so hard. I guess my attention to detail is even poorer...love you! Betty

What a great idea! Decorating Gingerbread houses. I think I'll use that here sometime.
